Research outline
Materials Evaluation & Engineering Laboratory (Hayashi Lab.) conducts research on nondestructive testing/materials evaluation using ultrasonic waves. This research is used in the manufacturing industry for material evaluation at the raw material stage, inspection after machining and welding, and final inspection before shipment. Aircrafts, nuclear and thermal power plants, and steel and petrochemical plants are regularly inspected by nondestructive testing in accordance with the rules and regulations. Recently, large structures such as buildings and bridges constructed during the high economic growth period are aging, and ultrasonic nondestructive inspection is also a technology used for their maintenance.
Our laboratory is conducting unique researches on non-contact ultrasonic measurement technology, inspection using guided waves, strength evaluation of adhesive joints, and nondestructive inspection of additive manufacturing products.
